Our best friends deserve our best care and require constant attention.
1. Make sure your dog has access to fresh water at all times. Carry a water bottle and collapsible bowl during outings to provide regular hydration breaks.
2. Schedule walks in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler. Be mindful of the humidity, as it can make it more challenging for dogs to cool down.
3. Create a comfortable environment by using an air conditioner or fan in your home, even when your dog is home alone.
4. Hot pavements (and sand) can cause burns on sensitive paw pads. Test the ground temperature with your hand before walking your dog and choose shaded routs or grassy areas whenever possible.
5. Watch our for signs of heat stress, such as excessive panting, drooling, sluggishness or disorientation. If you notice these symptoms, move your dog to a cooler environment and seek veterinary attention if needed.
